Tokyo stocks retreated on Tuesday as falling oil prices and data showing that China's economic growth had slowed caused jitters among investors about the outlook for the global economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 121.44 points, or 0.72 percent, from Monday to 16,834.13, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 11.20 points, or 0.81 percent, to 1,376.73.
