Police have arrested top rankers in the Telangana State Education Common Entrance Test (EdCET) on charges of impersonation.

Krishna Kant and Lingaswamy of Nalgonda district -- who had secured first and second rank, respectively in the test for admission into the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) courses -- were arrested on a complaint lodged by the EdCET convenor.

Police may also take some other top rankers into custody. The details of the case are likely to be announced in a day or two, sources said. The accused allegedly sent others to write the exams, by tampering with the photographs on hall tickets.

The scam came to light when the Telangana State Council for Higher Education found that the identity of some of the top rankers were not matching with their original identification documents.

As many as 57,775 candidates appeared for the test last month and 99 percent of them qualified for admission into B.Ed courses.
