Though a key benchmark index ended flat Wednesday, there were some big gainers, rising more than 11 percent, as also some laggards that shed over 17 percent on a single day.
Among the top gainers Wednesday, Eicher Motors surged 11.66 percent at Rs.10,363.15, followed by Nestle India, up 5.31 percent at Rs.5,600, and Apollo Hospital, up 4.54 percent at Rs.1,128.25.
Eicher Motors gained, riding on the good results it posted for the quarter ended June 2014.
The company reported a consolidated total income from operations of Rs.2,245.37 crore and a net profit of Rs.157.44 crore for the quarter ended June 2014.
Among the top losers, Unitech crashed 17.14 percent and almost hit the lower circuit filter of Rs.21. It eventually closed at Rs.21.75. Engineers India fell 13.89 percent at Rs.238.70 and Jaiprakash Associates were down 9.16 percent at Rs.53.55.

Among the 30 shares of the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange, 14 scrips ended in the green and 16 scrips in red.
The top Sensex gainers were led by ITC, up 2.72 percent at Rs.356.45; Hindustan Unilever, up 2.49 percent at Rs.718.40; HDFC, up 2.26 percent at Rs.1140.95; Sun Pharma, up 2.09 percent at Rs.800.25; and Wipro, up 0.98 percent at Rs.548.95.
The top Sensex losers were: BHEL, down 6.57 percent at Rs.209; Coal India, down 3.18 percent at Rs,352.75; Hindalco Industries, down 3.04 percent at Rs.180; and Tata Power, down 2.64 percent at Rs.88.60.
The Sensex closed at 25,918.95 points, up 38.18 points or 0.15 percent.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed flat -- up 12.50 points or 0.16 percent at 7,739.55 points.
