Port of Spain, Jan 7 (IANS/CMC) Leading Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Njisane Phillip remains hospitalised in California with a kidney-related problem, his stepfather has confirmed.

Phillip was taken into the California Hospital Medical Centre Friday with stomach pain but was scheduled to be relocated to a specialist hospital. Stepfather Phillip Whiteman has reported "no muscle damage" to Njisane and said that he was not on dialysis.

Whiteman says tests are still being done on his stepson since the cause of the problem had not yet been ascertained. Some of Phillip's fellow athletes have been tweeting their support including 400 metres hurdles World Champion Jehue Gordon, who has encouraged people to keep the cyclist in their prayers.

Last year, Phillip became the first T&T cyclist to win a medal in the International Cycling Union (UCI) World Cup series, capturing silver in the match sprint event in Manchester.
