Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced on Tuesday the signing of French footballer Benjamin Stambouli from English club Tottenham Hotspur for five seasons.

The 24-year-old, according to a statement by the French club, signed the contract on Monday night after passing the medical examination in New York City, reports Efe.

PSG added in the note that after Stambouli had his "experience in the English Premier League", he has decided to return to France to contribute to both PSG's national and European ambitions.

Stambouli was a key component in Montpellier's Ligue 1 title triumph in the 2011-12 season before joining Hotspur, where he capped 26 games.

The club did not mention any financial details in the statement, but according to media reports, the footballer's monthly net salary will be 240,000 euros (just over $260,000).

"I am delighted and very proud to become a member of the Paris Saint-Germain family," Stambouli said.

"I wasn't necessarily planning to leave the Premier League after one year but when a club with the stature of Paris Saint-Germain calls you, it makes your choice a lot easier! That's the moment when you really experience the power of this club. I will now focus on my pre-season," he added.
