Toyota inaugurates new diesel engine plant

Toyota Industries Engine India (TIEI) on Thursday inaugurated a new plant to manufacture powerful and high performance Global Diesel engines.

Engines being built by TIEI, a joint venture company between Kirloskar Systems Ltd (KSL) and Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), will feature Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency Combustion (ESTEC) technology, said the company.

Inaugurating the new engine plant at Jigani Industrial Area here, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: "Toyota's two decades presence in Karnataka has made it a household name. All Toyota employees are Karnataka's brand ambassadors... We want Toyota to continue and make future investments in the state of Karnataka."

 

Spread across 22 acres with an investmnet of Rs 1,100 crore, the new plant has a capacity to produce 1,08,000 units per year of 1GD-FTV 2.8 litre and 2GD-FTV - 2.4 litre engines in compliance with BS 4/Euro 4 emission standards.

This is the first GD engine plant for Toyota in India after Japan and Thailand.

"TIEI aims to become India's no. 1 engine manufacturing plant by contributing to the country's manufacturing mandate...We are strongly focused towards the 'Make in India' initiative of Government of India," said TIEI Managing Director T.R. Parasuraman.
