Tremors jolt Nepal yet again

Exactly a week after the devastating earthquake in Nepal, tremors were felt again in the Gorkha region on Saturday.

The tremors, in and around Narayanghat, about 150 km from Kathmandu, started at around 11 a.m. and lasted for over ten seconds.

Officials here said the tremors were not part of the aftershocks that have been rattling the region over the past week but were in fact a "proper earthquake".

Staying at a local accomodation, I, too, felt the temblor as the building shook.

Having travelled some 320 km up and down on Friday, I initially took it to be a "hectic schedule and tough terrain fall out" until the house keeping staff knocked the door asking me to move out.

Sudhir Upreti, a local businessman said today's tremor was by far the most jolting since the April 25 quake.

Sudip, a student living in Narayanghat informed that the jolt was enough to unbalance his motorbike.

Internet and electricity services were snapped for about 40 minutes. Traffic on major intersections in the town also halted for a while.
