A tribal was killed and 14 police personnel were injured Thursday in a clash between hundreds of armed tribals and police in Bihar's Purnea district, officials said.
The clash took place when police tried to retrieve a plot of land belonging to a private school that was taken over by tribals in Parora panchayat area in Krityanandnagar region, about 350 km from here.
The tribals opened fire and the police retaliated. Over a dozen tribals were arrested.
One of the two tribals injured in police firing died at a hospital during treatment, Purnea Superintendent of Police Ajeet Kumar Satyarthi said.
Satyarthi said the tribals set their 50 thatched huts on fire when the police arrived.
The tribals have now threatened to launch an agitation, police said. Several district officials are now camping in Parora to control the situation.
