Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose, nabbed in connection with the multi-croe rupee Saradha scam, was Saturday sent to judicial custody till Dec 5 by a city court after the CBI opposed his bail plea arguing the MP may try to influence witnesses.

Bose was arrested Nov 21 by the Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the Saradha scan, which took him into its custody.

While the CBI counsel pitched for sending Bose to jail custody, the MP pleaded for bail submitting he was ill and promised to comply with all conditions imposed by the judiciary.

After listening to both sides, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Alipur, Kingshuk Sadhu turned down Bose's bail plea and ordered judicial remand.

Bose's counsel argued that he was not involved with the business activities of the Saradha group. He said the newspaper, which has Bose as editor, was paid by Saradha group for the services it rendered to run a channel owned by the group.

Bose was arrested for his prima facie involvement in the Saradha scam on allegations of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of funds and deriving undue financial benefits.

Bose, also the editor of Trinamool mouthpiece "Jaago Bangla", was accused of "blackmail" by Saradha promoter and scam's alleged kingpin Sudipta Sen in a letter that he purportedly wrote to the CBI last year.
