West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress on Sunday ridiculed the CPI-M's assertion of making a comeback to power in the state.
Describing the Communist Party of India-Marxist's mass rally in the city's Brigade Parade Grounds as "mass less", Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee said none of the Marxist leaders had any positive agenda for the masses.
"Their mass rally lacked the masses. It was turned into a farce so much that all the speakers left in a haste. Not a single speaker could put forward anything that might make the people forget about the 34 years' misrule and start thinking about bringing a change," said Chatterjee at a media conference called hours of the rally.
With the CPI-M giving a call of remove the Trinamool and save Bengal, he said the Marxists need to answer the people about the sorry state of affairs they plunged Bengal into during their regime.
"What can be more laughable that those who employed all means to destroy democracy are now talking about it. They are talking about returning.. their return will be against democracy. Their return will only mean procession of skeletons, unleashing of the 'harmads' (armed CPI-M cadres)," said Chatterjee.
He also ridiculed CPI-M state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra's assertions of setting up industry at Singur from where a massive anti-acquisition movement spearheaded by the Trinamool forced Tata Motors to relocate its proposed car manufacturing unit to Gujarat.
"Why didn't they do that in their 34 years of rule? Now who will listen to their assertions for setting up industry? These are desperate attempts to be in news," he said.
"Their rally has proved that that people who have seen the all-round development under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee cannot forget the 34 years misrule and want this government to continue ushering in development.
"Depressed by this, the CPI-M has indulged in spreading canards and trying to malign the Trinamool. They have no agenda for the sake of the masses," added Chatterjee.
