A court in Tripura on Saturday sent senior CPI-M leader Jitendra Das, his two brothers and nephew to six-da'sy police custody in connection with the murder of his wife Kalpana Das, police said.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Jitendra Das, his two younger brothers and nephew were arrested by police on Friday in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Kalpana Das, who was a retired employee of Tripura police department.

She was found dead at their home at Ranir Bazar, near here, on Thursday morning.

"We have produced all the four accused at the first class judicial magistrate court here and sought 12-day police custody. The court has allowed six days," a police official said, adding that all the four accused would be produced in the court again on April 24.

The ruling CPI-M has expelled Jitendra Das from the party.

Claiming his innocence, Das told reporters at the court that the murder was a conspiracy against him and his family.

Jitendra Das, 64, was the former sabhadhipati (president) of paschim zilla parishad until July 2014 and a senior leader of the CPI-M local sub-divisional committee.

Kalpana's death has stirred political and non-political circles in the Left-ruled Tripura.
