Elections for panchayats in Left-ruled Tripura would be held in July, the state election commission announced Monday.
"We have initiated the process for elections to the three-tier panchayats that would be held in July," a Tripura State Election Commission official told reporters.
Polling would be conducted in 6,111 seats in 591 gram panchayats, 419 seats in 35 panchayat samities and 116 seats in eight zilla parishads.
In all the local government bodies, 50 percent seats are reserved for women.
All parties, including the Congress and the ruling Left Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) are gearing up for the polls.
The CPI-M has decided to revamp its organisational network and to constitute district-level party units, party state secretary Bijan Dhar said.
