A CRPF trooper was killed Monday in a gunbattle with Maoist rebels during the first phase of voting in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, authorities said.
V.C. Joseph of 186th batallion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed in the shootout in Dantewada, which was among the 18 assembly constituencies where polling was held Monday.
The polls to the 90-member assembly in Maoist-affected Chhattisgarh are being held in two phases on Nov 11 and 19.
