US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss areas of mutual interests between the two countries, a media report said on Wednesday.

A White House statement said the two leaders discussed a range of issues like bilateral trade, investments and counter-terrorism on Tuesday evening, Xinhua news agency reported.

The two leaders discussed economic partnership and mutual dedication to overcome terrorism and other regional security challenges through close cooperation, according to the statement.

"President Trump expressed appreciation for Kenya's significant contributions to the African Union Mission in Somalia and recognised Kenyan troops' sacrifices in the fight against al-Shabaab," it said.

The two leaders also discussed ways to boost bilateral trade and investments in Kenya and the broader East Africa regional situation, it added.
