Turkey Friday cancelled two naval drills with Egypt in the wake of the Arab nation's use of force against supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood. The violent crackdown killed over 600 protestors.

Turkey has conveyed to Egypt about its decision of cancelling an invitation to the latter for participating in the two exercises, one bilateral and the other within NATO, reported Xinhua citing Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Levent Gumrukcu on Twitter Friday.

Ankara's latest decision came a day after it recalled its ambassador from Egypt, where spiraling violence prompted the government to declare a state of emergency and a month-long curfew.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan Thursday urged the UN Security Council to convene quickly on the situation in Egypt.

Morsi was ousted by military last month.
