Ankara, Aug 11 (IANS/AKI) Turkish warplanes will "actively participate" in bombing raids against the Islamic State jihadist group in Syria, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Thursday.

"We have to fight against Daesh altogether," Cavusoglu told private broadcaster NTV, using the Arabic acronymn for IS.

"We will actively participate in operations with our planes," Cavusoglu said, noting that the IS was targeting Turkey because the country had cut supply lines and blocked the flow of foreign fighters to jihadist-held territory.

He said Ankara had urged Moscow to focus air strikes on IS-held areas and to carry out joint bombing raids on IS targets, noting that Russian jets had conducted sorties in areas where civilians were present.
