The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has presented FIFA badges to 22 referees and assistants in the country.

Seven male FIFA referees were Friday given their badges while seven male assistant referees also received the approval from the world football governing body Friday, reports Xinhua.

Four female FIFA referees and four assistants also received the approval from FIFA.

George Afriyie, an executive committee member of the GFA, who presented the badges to the referees at the FA control centre during a short ceremony, encouraged them to work hard to gain international recognition.

"We must improve our performances to get among the best referees in Africa and the world and I am confident with this crop of referees you can deliver," he said.

Afriyie said refereeing in Ghana has come under a lot of scrutiny and cautioned the country's elite referees to lead by example for the younger ones.
