Two accused arrested in Karnataka gang-rape

Two of the three men accused of abducting and gang-raping a medical student here June 20 have been arrested, police said Thursday.

"We arrested Yogesh and Harish in Udupi and have sent a team to Goa to nab the third accused (Anand)," Udupi Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah told IANS.

A major educational centre, Manipal is five kilometers from the Udupi temple town on the west coast of the state and 410 km from Bangalore.

Police admitted Yogesh to a state-run hospital as he attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison minutes before he was nabbed.

A case was registered June 21 against the accused, including an auto driver, for abduction and rape.

 

The victim, a fourth-year student of Kasturba Medical College, was abducted wheile waiting to hire an auto outside the Manipal University to return to her flat from the library June 20 night.
