Two people were arrested for shooting a Delhi Police Constable dead, police said Tuesday.

Earlier, police had said that four people, including two juveniles, were apprehended.

Police said the two accused - Santosh alias Lucky, 23, and Ved Rampal, 32 - were arrested from the Shahbad Dairy area, early Tuesday.

Two weapons used in the crime and the stolen service revolver of the slain constable were recovered from them.

Joint Commissioner of Police R.S. Krishnia said five people were involved in the murder. They were going to commit a crime in an auto-rickshaw, which was also recovered.

The other three were absconding.

Constable Jagbir was killed and his colleague, Narender, sustained serious injuries when they were fired upon Monday.

The attack took place around 1.30 a.m. in west Delhi's Vijay Vihar when the two policemen were patrolling the area.

"On the incident night, Ved Rampal was driving the rented auto rickshaw while the other four were sitting on the back seat," said Krishnia.

"Sensing something suspicious, Jagbir, who was patrolling on his own motorcycle along with Narendra asked the auto-rickshaw driver to stop. After the occupants failed to give a proper answer, Jagbir asked them to drive the vehicle to the Vijay Vihar police station," said Krishnia.

He said: "The auto-rickshaw moved a few metres but then stopped and the occupants engaged in a scuffle with the constables."

"In the meantime, Santosh opened fire on Jagbir at point blank range, with a bullet entering his chest. Despite being injured, Jagbir asked Narendra to run away from there and bring more policemen," said the officer.

Another attacker opened fire on Narendra, who is recuperating at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Both the accused have past criminal records which include attempt to murder and robbery.

Attempts are on to nab the other three.

Krishnia also said the family of the slain constable will be given ex-gratia relief.
