Two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and a BSF trooper was injured Wednesday when over 100 cattle smugglers from Bangladesh entered India and attacked a patrol party while trying to smuggle the animals.
The incident took place near the Jeetpur border outpost in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
According to the Border Security Force, over 100 Bangladeshis were trying to smuggle out cattle across the border when they were challenged by a BSF patrol party.
"The Bangladeshi criminals encircled the BSF party and attacked them with sharp weapons. Considering the threat perception, head constable Mohan Lal fired one stun grenade, which didn't explode. Simultaneously constable Kapil Dev Vyas fired one chilly grenade to deter the smugglers who tried to drag away a constable," a BSF officer said.
"Sensing imminent danger to his life and of his fellow personnel, Mohan Lal fired from his personal weapon. During the scuffle, two Bangladeshi criminals died," he said.
