In a fresh ragging incident in a West Bengal educational institution, two students of Jadavpur University here were suspended Wednesday for allegedly ragging a junior.

A final year student of construction engineering was suspended for two semesters, while a fourth year student of the printing technology department was handed a one-semester suspension.

The university cracked the whip following a complaint from a second year engineering student of Information Technology department to the University Grants Commission (UGC)last month.

During the suspension period, the two students would not be allowed to stay in the hostel where the incident occurred, said university Registrar Pradip Kumar Ghosh.

The victim, hailing from Darjeeling district, was allegedly beaten up by the two seniors.

The UGC had forwarded the complaint to the university authorities, who constituted a probe panel which pronounced the duo guilty.

Last month, two students of the Marine Engineering Research Institute complained to police about ragging by seniors. They later left the institute.

Five students of Bengal Engineering Science University, Shibpur, were suspended Aug 27 for ragging a junior in hostel.
