Two guerrillas were killed and an armyman was injured Saturday in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir when the army foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC).

"Two militants were eliminated when alert troops foiled an infiltration bid on the LoC in Poonch today (Saturday)," defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

"Troops noticed movement of a group of militants around 2.30 a.m. today."

"The intruders were challenged, after which an exchange of firing took place. Two militants have been killed so far," the spokesman said.

"Searches are going on in the area though firing has stopped."

An armyman suffered injuries and he was shifted to a hospital.

During the past 10 days, Pakistani troops have thrice violated the bilateral ceasefire agreement on the LoC in the district.

The army maintains these violations are intended to support infiltration by guerrillas into the Indian side.
