Two militants and a soldier were killed in a gunfight between security forces and the guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmirs' Pulwama district on Monday, police said.

"Two militants and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the army were killed in the Drabgam village gunfight that started today (Monday) evening," a senior police officer told IANS here.

He said personnel of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles and police's Special Operations Group had surrounded the village on specific information about a group of militants hiding there but as they tightened the cordon, they were fired upon by the militants and retaliated, leading to the gunfight.

"The slain militants have been identified as Afaqullah Bhat and Abdul Manan Dar, while the soldier killed was identified as Naik Subedar K.V.S. Reddy."
