Two youths have been arrested in Hyderabad for the gang rape of a college student and blackmailing her with the pictures taken when she was in a compromising position with her boyfriend, police said Thursday.
The incident took place Monday in Hayathnagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad but came to light Wednesday after the 22-year-old victim lodged a police complaint.
A police officer Thursday said the youths identified as Linga Reddy and Srinivas Reddy were booked under the Nirbhaya Act. The cell phone they used to capture the girl's pictures has been sent to a forensic science laboratory for examination.
The girl, an engineering student, and her friend went to an abandoned building. Two youths, who followed them, clicked their pictures in compromising position and threatened to upload these on internet.
The youths beat up the girl's male companion, chased him away and then raped the victim one after the other.
The accused also took the mobile number of the victim and started making threatening calls. The girl initially hesitated to approach police but later lodged a complaint at the Hayathnagar police station.
Police also suspect the involvement of the accused in similar crimes in the past.
