Two people have been arrested for murdering a man in Odisha's Nuapada district after accusing him of practising witchcraft, police said Wednesday.

Shyamghana Majhi and Giridhari Majhi were arrested for killing 75-year-old Khageswar Majhi in Chhatriapada village, about 560 km from Bhubaneswar, inspector in-charge of Komna police station M.K. Nayak told IANS.

Although the killing took place Oct 3, the matter came to light after the son of the victim lodged a police complaint Tuesday, Nayak said.

According to the complaint, some villagers believed that the elderly man was responsible for the ill-health of two residents.

The group of villagers comprising six men allegedly dragged the elderly man from his home and beat him to death.

The victim's son has named six people. While two of them have been arrested, efforts were on to nab the others, he said.
