A DTC driver and a helper were killed when a speeding tempo hit a bus that had broken down in west Delhi, police said on Friday.

Six other Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) staff were among the seven who sustained injuries.

Police said the eight DTC employees, including several mechanics, were repairing the DTC bus -- which plied on route number 982 from Seemapuri to Sultanpuri area -- at Madhuban Chowk in Rohini area late on Thursday night when the accident occurred.

"Bus driver Sunil Kumar, 32, and helper Pramod Kumar, 37, were killed on the spot. Conductor Sumit Kumar and five mechanics were admitted in Safdarjung hospital," Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said.

The tempo driver, who was also injured, was arrested from the spot, he said.

Angry DTC staff of the Rohini Depot blocked traffic on nearby roads on Friday morning in protest, he said.
