Two people were killed and a dozen others injured when a school bus collided with a freight train in the US state of North Dakota, media reported.

The accident took place Monday afternoon in Larimore in the state's northeast as the school bus from the Larimore Public School failed to yield to a stop sign at a railroad crossing where a west-bound freight train was passing by, Xinhua reported citing authorities.

The bus driver, 62, and a student, 17, were killed after being ejected from the bus as the train struck it on the passenger side. Twelve other students were injured, with three being listed in "very serious condition", according to reports.
