Two man were arrested here with fake currency of face value of Rs.1.1 lakh, police said Thursday.

On a tip-off, police arrested Munna Singh, 30, and Vinod Singh, 36, from Delhi's Anand Vihar Railway Station Wednesday.

"We have recovered Rs.1.1 lakh in Rs.500 denomination counterfeit Indian currency from their possession," a senior police official said.

He added that Vinod, a garment vendor, had suffered heavy losses in his business. He had borrowed money at a high interest rate and could not pay it back in time.

"Vinod approached one of his associate in Bihar who had links with counterfeit currency racketeers. He, along with Munna Singh and his associate, procured counterfeit Indian currency notes from their contact in Betia, Bihar. They then brought it to Delhi for further circulation," police said.

A case under appropriate sections of the law was registered by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.
