Afghanistan's National Directorate for Security (NDS) has captured two militants along with four suicide vests, foiling possible terror attacks in Kabul.
"Personnel of NDS arrested 2 members of Haqqani terrorist network with four suicide vests, six pieces of AK-47 and nine magnetic bombs and other explosives in Kabul province yesterday," Xinhua reported citing an NDS statement issued Tuesday.
The Haqqani network, according to the statement, had sent the would-be suicide bombers along with suicide vests from Pakistan's tribal area of North Waziristan to Khost province and then to Kabul to conduct suicide attacks and undermine electioneering.
The two-month election campaign for Afghanistan's upcoming presidential election began Feb 2 amid tight security as Taliban militants have vowed to disrupt the election process.
