Two Nepali security guards -- both cousins -- working in Titwala town were attacked and murdered in the early hours of Thursday, a police official said here.

"The two were walking along the road when a gang of ruffians attacked them with rods, sticks and sharp weapons. They were badly beaten up and were abandoned in a side alley nearby," said investigating officer Venkat Andhale.

He said the assailants also dismembered the private organs of one of the two cousin brothers before fleeing the scene.

The two have been been identified as Raju Sonar, 25, and his cousin Madan Sonar, 26, and were working in Mharalpada area of the town.

The incident has sent shockwaves in this primarily industrial town and its surroundings.

Andhale said that three prime suspects have been detained and a hunt is on to trace the others, and the motive behind the gruesome crime is being investigated.
