Two persons were shot dead on Wednesday morning in the University of California's Los Angeles campus, university officials said quoting a police source.
UCLA officials said there is a possible active shooter in the campus and an investigation is being conducted at Boelter Hall, which is part of the Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. A campus-wide lockdown has been put in place, Xinhua reported.
The shooting was reported shortly before 10 a.m. in Boelter Hall, according to the university. Then shortly, the entire campus was placed on lockdown. A large number of police and fire units swarmed the campus, and paramedics were seen standing by.
According to police, the Los Angeles Police Department went on a tactical alert in response to the shooting reports.
The UCLA campus newspaper reported via Twitter that many professors have been asked to cancel the classes and inform the students via email.
The nearby Warner Elementary School has also been closed as a precautionary measure, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District.
