Two undertrial inmates were killed and five others suffered injuries in a clash between two rival gangs while they were being taken back to Tihar jail from a city court on Tuesday evening, police said.

The clash occurred near Pitampura area in west Delhi inside a moving van ferrying nine inmates from the Rohini court to Tihar.

Police said the inmates belong to Delhi's two top gangs -- Neetu Dabodha gang and Neeraj Bawana gang.

Paras alias Goldi, a sharpshooter of the Neetu Dabodha gang, and his associate Pradeep alias Bhola, both in their early 30s, were killed in the fight.

"Paras and Pradeep were killed and five other inmates were injured after a violent fight between two groups of inmates belonging to different gangs," Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikramjit Singh told IANS.

"At the time of the attack, the inmates were being taken back to Tihar jail from the Rohini court," he said.

He said Delhi's topmost gangster Neeraj Bawana was also among the inmates who were being taken back to Tihar after a court proceeding.

Police said the injured inmates were being treated at Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Pitampura.

Police said the prisoners were being taken back under the watch of the Delhi Armed Police third battalion.

One of the dead inmates, Paras, a resident of Panipat in Haryana, was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in March 2013, and was lodged in Tihar since then.

Police said Paras was involved in more than 20 cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping-cum-murder, extortion and robbery. He had twice attacked police teams.

Paras had shot dead head constable Ram Kishan, posted at Kanjhawla police station in west Delhi, when he stopped a luxury car for checking in November 2012.

Pradeep, a key member of the Neetu Dabodha gang, escaped a well planned attack by 10 members of the Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Baali gang in April 2014. He was arrested by the Special Cell within a few minutes of the attack at the Rohini court.
