China's meteorological authority Friday forecast that typhoon Rammasun will continue to rage through the weekend before it starts weakening Monday.

It also warned that the typhoon, the ninth this year, may make landfall again in the coastal areas of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwest China late Friday night, Xinhua reported.

Earlier, Rammasun made landfall in Wenchang City in the island province of Hainan at 3.30 p.m. Friday.

An official of the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) said that Rammasun will become the strongest typhoon to hit south China in some 40 years.

Typhoon Marge in 1973 brought winds up to 60 metres per second to Qionghai City in Hainan, killing hundreds of people.

According to the NMC forecast, during the next two days, the provinces of Guangdong and Yunnan will also have severe rainstorms.
