Abu Dhabi, Sep 4 (IANS/WAM) The Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) has joined National Geographic to help promote the Great Nature Project, an ambitious initiative designed to inspire bio-diversity conservation efforts among the public globally.

EAD will champion the project in the UAE, and along with the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI) and the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, will consolidate efforts to drive awareness on the project through their collective local, regional and international networks.

National Geographic, the world's largest non-profit scientific and educational organisation, and its partners hope that the project will inspire conservation efforts.

People have been asked to take pictures of animals in their natural habitat between Sep 21 and 29, and share the precious, varied and sometimes fragile bio-diversity of the UAE with the rest of the world.

The UAE is home to 800 species of plants, 54 species of reptiles and 49 species of mammals.
