Dubai, Oct 19 (IANS/WAM) United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vice President and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced Saturday a project to transform Dubai into a smart city where government services will be accessible using hi-tech smart devices.
"We aim to harness the technology so as to better living conditions and new form of development," said Sheikh Mohammed, who is also the UAE prime minister.
He added that fibre optic network and high-speed wireless internet will form the backbone of "a new life" in Dubai.
He said the project intends to extend better services to children, youth, businesspersons and tourists, adding that modern cities require new tools and innovations.
The smart city project will also provide information on weather, traffic, transport, health, education, entertainment, and tourist services such as aviation services and restaurants.
