A court in the UAE Monday sentenced seven members of an Al Qaeda terror cell who planned a bomb attack at a Dubai landmark, a media report said.

The Federal Supreme Court found them guilty of establishing and running an Al Qaeda terror cell and giving financial support to Jabhat Al Nusra, an Islamist group fighting the regime of Bashar Al Assad in Syria, The National reported.

The organiser of the terror cell, a Palestinian, identified only as R.A, 44, was sentenced for life in prison, while six other Arab nationals were jailed for seven years each.

Police found evidence supporting the charges that include step-by-step guides in their laptops showing how to build rockets, bombs and weapons, the report said.

Judge Falah Al Hajeri ordered the confiscation of all electronic devices that were used in the investigation process as evidence.

All defendants will be deported after completion of their imprisonment.

Two other defendants were acquitted of all charges, according to the report.
