UAE participates in World Bank-IMF meetings in US

Washington, Oct 13 (IANS/WAM) The UAE is participating in the annual meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which kicked off here to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development and aid effectiveness.

The meetings began on Thursday and brought together central bankers, Ministers of Finance and Development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations and academics.

The United Arab Emirates delegation to the meetings was led by Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs.

He will also hold bilateral meetings with top IMF and WBG officials to discuss ways to strengthen the UAE's relations with international financial organisations.

 

The minister will also hold a series of meetings with a number of international officials, including IMF Managing Director Christian Lagarde, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, IMF Executive Director Hazem Al Biblawi. Al Tayer will also participate in seminars, panel discussions and workshops on the sidelines of the event.

The UAE delegation to the meetings also included Central Bank Governor Mubarak Rashid Al Mansouri and several senior officials.
