The central government on Thursday said that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was spotted over the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in October this year.

"One incident of sighting of unmanned aerial vehicle over IGI Airport was reported on October 26, 2015, at 0751 hours (7.51 a.m.)," union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

"An FIR (first information report) has been registered with the Delhi Police on October 27."

The minister cited other incidents of aerial traffic being disturbed due to external factors like flashing lights.

"Further, pilots of Jet Airways flight Nos.816 and 746 landing at IGI Airport on November 16 reported being inconvenienced by flashing lights," the minister said in his reply during the question hour.

"Preliminary inquiry has been conducted and the reports have not been confirmed by any photographic or documentary evidence except for witness accounts."

The minister reassured parliament that radars at the IGI Airport are up-to-date and are capable of detecting objects beyond a height of 2,000 feet.
