A late own goal from defender Toby Alderweireld ended Atletico Madrid's run of four consecutive wins in Group G of the UEFA Champions' League as the Spanish side drew 1-1 with Zenit St. Petersburg.
After a goalless first half, an Adrian Lopez strike in the 54th minute appeared to have ensured another three points for the unbeaten Spanish club Tuesday until a combination of Alderweireld's carelessness and a misjudgment from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois allowed Zenit to equalise with a quarter of an hour to go, reports Xinhua.
Atletico, who were guaranteed to finish top of Group G before the match, will face Porto in their final group match, while second-placed Zenit will face Austria Vienna in a do-or-die away clash as the three remaining teams in Group G battle for the second qualifying spot.
