Ukrainian troops resumed a military operation against pro-Russian militants in the eastern regions after the end of a 10-day ceasefire, Parliament Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov said Tuesday.
The announcement came after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko Monday decided not to extend the ceasefire in the violence-hit regions, Xinhua reported.
Poroshenko stressed that he would be ready to resume the truce if all the sides observed his peace plan.
The Ukrainian president June 21 announced a week-long ceasefire to seek a peaceful solution to the conflict, and later extended it till June 30.
However, the pro-Russian militants continued their attacks on government troops in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk during the ceasefire.
