Ukraine Thursday submitted its official bid to the International Olympic Committee to stage the 2022 Winter Olympics.
"We applied for participation in the 2022 Olympic Games on Nov 14, which is the deadline date for bids," Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul announced.
Ukraine is planning to host the Winter Olympics in the Carpathian Mountains in western Lvov region, which borders with Poland.
The country's proposal features a $1 billion project to stage the Games in picturesque highland towns and villages.
Kiev hopes the successful bid would inject a new impetus into the development of tourism in the Carpathian Mountains, spurring up the economic growth of the region.
The IOC will select the host city July 31, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
