Marking the end of three years of growth, the Ukrainian economy stagnated last year, the State Statistics Service revealed Thursday.

In 2013, Ukraine's nominal gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to $180.7 billion, Xinhua quoted a report of the statistical committee as stating.

Ukraine's GDP shrank 1.3 per cent year on year in July-September 2013, after contracting 1.1 per cent and 1.3 per cent in the first and second quarters, respectively, the report said.

It said, however, the weak economic performance in the first nine months was offset by 3.7-percent growth in the fourth quarter.

In 2012, Ukraine's GDP grew 0.2 percent, the lowest rate since 2009, when the economy contracted by 15.1 percent.

Ukraine's GDP rose 5.2 percent in 2011 and 4.2 percent in 2010.

The government, however, expects 3 per cent economic growth this year.
