The UN's top humanitarian affairs coordinator arrived in the Syrian capital Thursday, reports Xinhua.
The reasons for UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs Valerie Amos' visit is not clear but Amos headed to the ministry of social affairs in Damascus upon her arrival.
The visit comes as Washington is garnering support for a planned military action in Syria.
The threats of military strike came after Syrian rebels accused the Syrian government of unleashed nerve gas near Damascus in August. The government has denied the accusation.
