Manchester United head coach Louis van Gaal says he is delighted to see his team's top four rivals slip in the English Premier League (EPL).

On Wednesday, fifth-placed Manchester United beat Watford 1-0 to put themselves right in the mix. Elsewhere Liverpool thrashed fourth-placed Manchester City 3-0 and third-placed Arsenal and second-placed Tottenham Hotspur also lost out on their respective football encounters.

"It's fantastic," Van Gaal was quoted as saying by goal.com.

"That's the strength of the Premier League. It's also nice as we lost at Sunderland and there was a lot of criticism at that time but the difference between teams is not that big.

"Everybody can lose to everybody."

Speaking about the tie, the Dutchman said United gave away a lot of chances in the first half.

"I have to say, we gave the chances away," he added.

"It was not that they were creating them. They were pressing us and we gave too many balls away. In the second half we did it, but Timothy (Fosu-Mensah) with his speed restored a lot of our errors."
