Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has said the English football club should support under-fire coach Louis van Gaal.

United are presently sixth in the Premier League standings and exited the Champions League during a run of eight games without a win.

"I hope they stick with Louis van Gaal, he deserves more time. It's still a work in progress for him, he's made some signings and from my experience in Spain it will take time for players from abroad to settle in. So, they should stick with it," Moyes was quoted as saying by BBC on Wednesday.

Moyes was given the charge of United in 2013 after the retirement of Alex Ferguson but he was sacked 10 months later and van Gaal was brought in as his replacement in May 2014.

"What Manchester United stand for is that they keep their managers, they've always supported their managers. They don't want to become a club which continuously changes their manager," Moyes said.
