The Uttar Pradesh BJP on Friday said the Samajwadi Party government in the state was functioning in a dictatorial manner.

Bharatiya Janata Party state president Keshav Prasad Maurya said BJP city chief and about 50 workers had been booked under severe sections of the Indian Penal Code for merely burning effigies during a peaceful protest over the alleged insult heaped on Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar by state minister Azam Khan.

Taking a dig at the Akhilesh Yadav government over the land grabbing issue, he said its slogan is "vacant plot is ours".

Giving instances, Maurya said over 150 police sub-inspectors have been killed in the state and over 1,500 assaulted during the SP rule in the past five years.

Maurya said the SP, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress were colluding and hence the BSP had not protested Azam Khan's insult to the Dalit icon.

Attacking the Congress, the BJP leader said the locals were attending Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's rallies just to take away cots and not to hear him.
