Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday announced the end of Value Added Tax (VAT) on solar power appliances in the state.

He said provided with facilities and the right environment, entrepreneurs of the state can propel Uttar Pradesh as a front ranking and developed state in the country.

Pointing out how countries like Japan and Germany had made gigantic strides of progress based on micro, small and cottage industries, he said the success of 'Make in India' mission was not possible without a major role for 'Make in UP'.

The chief minister was speaking at the inauguration of the 'North India Solar Summit -2015' organised under the aegis of the Indian Industries Association.

Referring to the growing use of solar energy across the world, the chief minister said the state had also put in place incentives to utilise non-conventional power resources.

The state government, Yadav said, was working to establish solar power plants and solar parks.

He also said by 2016, villages will start getting 16-18 hours power while cities will get 22-24 hours electricity.
