Five people including three Uttar Pradesh Police constables posted as security officers of a politician were arrested for assaulting a chemist here, police said Saturday.
The three constables - Shailendra Pratap, Shailendra, and Sunny and their two companions Mohammed Sayeem Aktar and Shiv Kumar were arrested from Connaught Place area late Friday, police said.
Police said the accused constables, posted as personal security officers of a senior politician of Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party, had assaulted a chemist in south Delhi's Yusuf Sarai area on Sep 17.
Ashok of Royal Associates Chemist had told police that the men had beaten him up after a woman talked to him and threatened him of dire consequences.
Police said that one of them had come to Ashok and asked a cough syrup. Dissatisfied with his answer, he called up a woman and asked Ashok to speak to her. A few minutes later, the others joined him. Two of them were in khaki uniform and carrying pistols.
Police have also collected the footage from the CCTV installed inside the shop.
