A staggering Rs 267.30 crore will be distributed among 89,100 meritorious girl students in Uttar Pradesh under the amended Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme, a state government spokesman said on Thursday.
This follows Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's instructions to officials to launch a drive under the amended scheme for the benefit of meritorious girl students.
Cheques for Rs 30,000 each will be given to girl students who have excelled in intermediate or equivalent examinations in the state. Programmes in this regard will be held at the district and tehsil headquarters between August 16-17 by the district magistrates and district inspector of schools.
The Samajwadi Party government has amended the Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme to include meritorious passouts of Class XII of state Secondary Education Council, Central Board of Secondary Education, Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, UP Madarsa Council and UP Sanskrit Education Council. Earlier, the scheme was meant only for UP Board students.
