Uttar Pradesh is set to observe a 'bhujal saptah' (groundwater week) across the state from July 16 to 22, an official said on Thursday.
The groundwater department, the official further informed was coordinating with district magistrates, divisional commissioners and chief development officials of the 75 districts to ensure that the aim of motivating people to conserve and value water succeeds.
The chief secretary has sought participation of local schools, colleges and educational institutions at district and block level.
Directions, through a circularwas issued to all principal secretaries, secretaries, divisional commissioners and district magistrates to hold rallies and seminars.
"Relevant competitions, seminars and exhibitions on revival of water bodies will be held to make students aware about the importance of water conservation through farm ponds, check-dams, roof top rain water harvesting, integrated water management," he informed IANS.

Persons and non-government organisations (NGO) who have made remarkable contribution towards water conservation will also be honoured during the groundwater week.
